My Hospital Bag post for any expectant Mommas out there! With my first born, I had no clue what to pack and ended up not using much of anything. This was also well before mommy bloggers were super popular. Although I am a mommy and blogger, I wanted to share the items I have currently packed in my Hospital bag with items I wished I had back then. Everyone is different and it depends on how your birth plan is set-up, but these are what I have and what I plan on using after delivery.
The bag that holds your stuff! I kept mine pretty small so I don’t over-pack because that would be me. I wanted something that would hold everything I’m planning on taking, but nothing that screams “I’m moving in!” I plan to only be at the hospital for maximum, 2 days like my last delivery; you can’t always plan everything out in life, unfortunately, but, a good thing is I’m a drive away from home so It’s not like I can’t go and get it. The bag I have is similar to this one with a few dividers but just big enough to carry everything.
I did not pack these because I had no clue what I was doing back then. I was nursing, but I found it so hard to use regular bra’s so this time, I picked up two! No underwire, super comfortable and easy! Regardless if your milk comes in immediately or not, these are must-haves for comfort! They are super soft, have clips in the front so I can easily and discreetly feed the baby while the hospital stuff are coming in and out. I’m starting out with 2 and once my milk comes in, I’ll figure out if I need a different size because that does happen! If you want to see the ones I have and considered click here and here
I had this weird idea I wasn’t allowed to wear my own clothes…I don’t know where I got it from! I did pack going home clothes but not for the duration of my stay. This time, I have Loose soft pants, a shirt, Robe and my own gown for after delivery. Make sure you don’t mind getting these gross or messed up because you just might! I got dark shades for most of them.
SOCKS & SLIPPERS
I did pack socks last time because I’m always cold but this time, I decided to take my friend Rachel Talbott’s idea and picked up some rubber slippers for the shower! I have a weird thing about my feet touching the floor of facilities so this was like a must have! When I delivered my daughter, I put wash rags down and stepped on them but this was a way better idea and I don’t mind throwing them away afterward!
I have my own, I do know my hospital provides some for me, but ya know…I wanna be prepared! What if there’s a shortage or something? LOL! Make sure you don’t use your pretty ones either! Don’t try to be cute either! You gotta go full-on ugly panties because you need something to support the pad because you’ll be bleeding…a lot. Unfortunate, but 100% true.
TMI, I know…but i brought my own pads last time and when I took the hospital tour this time around, they shared that I don’t have to bring any! I’m still going to pack a few from home because I’m always over-prepared however; this was nice to know!
My hospital also provides this stuff so I don’t have to bring anything, but I like to have a few of my own products like a toothbrush, toothpaste etc…I will have my skincare products and other items to make me feel relaxed, but it’s so nice to have back-ups…especially if your water breaks out of nowhere!
SELF CARE ITEMS
This is going to get a little real, but I feel it’s necessary to share! After delivery, there’s a lot that happens down there. These items are necessary and must-haves for any hospital bag…Hemorrhoids are REAL! You are going to have a lot of pain (well, most people will) Tucks will be your best friend! You can also get preparation H. Just make sure you clear these products with your doctor before you do anything. I don’t know some hospitals provide these things along with a bottle to keep yourself clean and ease some pain. Pack them just in case and use them if you need them!
My makeup bag will also be added the closer I get to delivery; I plan to take pictures with the baby and my first born so I want to look my best! Some don’t care and that’s perfectly okay too! I just like to look a little pulled together and feel somewhat normal after so this is my way of doing so!
I’ll probably bring my nursing pillow and nursing cover along with my own breast pump! I’m not sure if I’ll have much milk besides colostrum in the beginning, but like I said, I like to be prepared and ready! Along with my pump, I’ll have disposable breast pads and once I get home, I’ll switch to my washable ones! Those are super important because I don’t want to be leaking through my shirts.
I plan to pack lactation cookies to get my milk production flowing and going within the next few weeks so I recommend doing your research! I used tea last time and it helped a little, but I’m going to make sure I have these cookies in my bag so I can start producing enough for my little one.
Closer to delivery, I’ll have my camera (I’m hoping to vlog a little bit) my big camera and lens, laptop, laptop charger, phone charger and any other electronics I might need during my stay.
I will have baby’s items packed with me; I’ll have a separate post about those the closer I get. I’m still deciding on what I want for outfits and such but make sure you’re following me on Snapchat or Instagram so you don’t miss out on that post!
