I have a lot of makeup and beauty products. As a blogger and content creator, I get a lot of products to test and share or create content for.
I’ve tried many ways to organize my collection, but it was all overwhelming, which caused me to not even try new products because I kept rotating my makeup I’ve already liked.
Because of that reason, I had to figure out a way to make it easier to see the new products and be more efficient as I’m storing products away for a new season.
HOW I ORGANIZE MY MAKEUP
Before I even stored my makeup, I went through all of it. It took a long time, but It’s worth it. This way, you aren’t going through those same bins to take out stuff you don’t use or aren’t interested in.
Sort it out on the floor or use bins. I like to set mine up like this:
- Expired/Throw away
- New Products to try
- Items to donate (unopened/unused)
- Products for family or friends who don’t mind that you swatched or used a product once
- Products for giveaway
- Duplicates or back-ups (If you don’t need them, add them to the products for family and friends pile
I prefer the drawer method, but a full regular clothing drawer or a wardrobe style with shelves and drawers. I have tried the acrylic drawers, closed top containers, and trays. Those are great for the wardrobe option. But A regular dresser drawer was my favorite.
All my products are in one place and it’s easy to see.
If you have drawers, try using drawer organizers. You can place them to fit your drawers and customize them any way you want. This way, you can have an everyday makeup style drawer, but all the products are placed in their own insert to keep it clean and organized.
This is an extra step, but it has saved me so much time. Label your bins/drawers. This will keep you from pulling out random bins or drawers unless you have one dedicated spot for it all. There are so many ways you can do that from writing the “foundation drawer” or lipstick drawer.
You can also color code it. Whatever you decide, this will save you from running from one section to the other.
As a blogger and content creator, trying new products is essential. Whenever I get a bunch of new products sent from brands, or I buy, I try to remove or giveaway something I don’t use or has been unopened and can donate. This is a great way to keep the rotation going in your collection and keeping products from going bad.
MAKEUP BAG ROTATION
This is another way I get to use products I’ve already reviewed or things that are new to try.
I keep a makeup bag of items I want to use or haven’t used in a while. Each month, I do a makeup bag rotation, so I give products a chance to rotate. A lot of products I don’t like, I add it in and find new ways to like it.
After the month is over, I’ll either add it to the donation for family and friends bin or throw it away. I do have my permanent items like waterproof eyeliner and mascara, I keep on my studio desk, but this is another way to use what you have by shopping your stash! Check out this post here where I talk about it.
I hope these tips and solutions help when you’re tackling your own makeup collection. Feel free to share your way of keeping your makeup organized in the comments section.
