Makeup prepping product is super important for the wear time of your makeup, how easily it applies and blends out and how it’ll look overall. I have incredible makeup prepping products I use daily without and without makeup, but these are always going to be apart of my routine. Let’s dive into number one.
MAKEUP PREPPING PRODUCTS
Primers are used for many things I’m trying to achieve with my makeup. They are most commonly known for making your makeup last throughout the day. I like to use them for that purpose along with making my skin dewy, protecting by adding an SPF and mattifying my face.
My favorite primer for dewy wet looking skin is from Laura Mercier. It’s called the hydrating primer. It sits on the skin beautifully. Doesn’t feel greasy or nasty after a few hours of wear.
Think of a gel style consistency with a hydrating finish. If you’re looking for a drugstore makeup primer, try out Jcatbeauty’s H2O primer. That one is the best at the drugstore that I’ve tried.
I should have started with this one, but I don’t always use moisturizers first. Sometimes I will apply a primer first and use specific face creams and lotions. In this case, Krave Beauty has an incredible serum moisturizer that doubles as a makeup primer, but I use it more like a moisturizer when my skin isn’t balanced.
Over the week, I had a bad allergic reaction to an egg from a breakfast sandwich Cetaphil is a forever go-to because it works. It’s not too rich but it does a great job at keeping the skin hydrated.
This moisturizer allows the makeup to layer without Pilling on the skin and doesn’t change the shade of my base products. You can get it at the drugstore and it will last you a long time.
I love a good facial mist to use before, during and ever makeup application. It allows the powder to melt onto the skin so you don’t look like you used flour. It’s great before applying foundation because it will assist in the blending and it’s great during for a dewy glow.
I have a lot of favorites, I’ll narrow it down to three for this post.
Mario Badescu is great. It’s inexpensive and helps as a skincare product too. I like to use it for dewy skin because it has a non-greasy film (in a good way) It’s rose water and aloe so it’s going to sooth your skin and it’s what I’ve purchased since I was a teen.
Pixie Beauty has an awesome selection of facial mists. My favorite is the Glow mist for all the reasons above and a little more. It doesn’t look as dewy as Mario Badescu, but it’s really nice to use before and during.
A newer favorite is from Yes To. Yes to has a brand new collection called Yes To Grapefruit Unicorn and the mist is so soft and light but the formula is nice too. There’s vitamin C which is awesome for the skin. I love it for the soft mist so you won’t feel like you’re drowning in it.
PEEL PADS AND EXFOLIATES
I’m really big into exfoliation. For the makeup to go on smooth, look flawless and smooth and look that much better, I will always recommend exfoliating. My favorite way is to use peel pads. This is quick, effective and easy. My favorite peel pad brand is from Neogen with the Lemon Gauze peel pads.
For exfoliating, like scrubs, Dermalogica has an amazing Daily exfoliant that I use all over the body. It’s soft but effective. I keep mine in a dry cool place in the shower and use it a few times a week.
Pixie Beauty also has a peel and polish product I love too! It’s a 2-in-1 style product that is also effective for exfoliating the skin.
Of course there are way more products I could mention. Let me know if you want to see a dedicated post for it!
Unless it’s hyaluronic acid or vitamin C, I try to keep most serums for bedtime. But I do try to include some in the day so I can use other ones for night.
One I’ll use during the day is from L’Oreal. Hyaluronic acid is best used when it’s gloomy, raining and humid. Because it’s a humectant, it helps your skin retain and hold moisture. I don’t use it during bedtime because it needs to pull that hydration from somewhere. If you aren’t well hydrated, It will pull from the water already in your skin. This will cause you to have dry and dehydrated skin.
I like to buy a lot of products with hyaluronic acid in it because it helps the skin stay hydrated.
Vitamin C is another serum. I can’t use too much because I end up getting hives. (Might be too strong to use every day) so I’ll adjust according to my skin. But I love Paula’s Choice Vitamin C.
As I try new products, I’ll add and take away. I try to use new products all the time so I’ll update this post when I find new or better products. Currently, I love these a lot and recommend them.
They have been repurchased or will be because they are awesome. If you have any questions, leave them down in the comments. Check out my YouTube channel for a Pamper skincare routine I just uploaded here
