I’ve been getting questions about my new haircut and color so, here’s where you can find the information on my hair and how I’m keeping it healthy.
My hair is naturally wavy & curly. I have Polynesian hair so it’s a mixture and can be difficult to style on a day-to-day basis.
I wanted something new for the summer. Not too light, but more than what I had the last time. I truly love how it turned out and wanted to share it so you can use it for your inspo on your next hair appointment.
I ASKED MY STYLIST FOR
My stylist has been doing my hair since last September, so she knows my hair, what products work, and how the coloring process goes. I went in with inspo, and we ultimately came up with what I have now. Here’s what I asked her for:
- Shorter Hair with layers (still able to put it up when I want)
- Warm highlights with money pieces
- A cut that fits my face shape
- Can be styled with my natural hair
She custom mixed my toner colors after bleaching my hair. It took about 20ish minutes to get from my natural black hair to a bleached look. One thing she mentioned was, it’s always possible to fix the hair, so don’t be afraid to let your stylist know kindly if you think it’s too cool or too warm. I was going for more warm tones to fit my skin tone. She nailed it!
PRODUCTS I USE FOR MY HAIR
When it comes to products to put in the hair, I’m using a deep conditioner from Briogio, a heat protectant from Mizani, and hair oil. Because it’s shorter, I don’t have to use so many products to style it.
HOW OFTEN ARE YOU WASHING?
I wash my hair 1-2x a week because my natural hair type can dry out due to the curls. If I straighten, I can go three to four days without washing. If I work out and sweat a lot, It’s more on the one-to-two days a week spectrum.
INSPO FOR HAIRCUT AND COLOR
I always bring in images saved on my phone. I bring images on what I like and images on what I don’t like. I bring images of women who have a similar hair type and straightened/styled.
I always ask my stylist what she thinks. She is the one who knows hair and deals with hair daily, so I value her input, and it can always scale it back for me.
- Bring in physical images from magazines, books, or pictures.
- Use Pinterest! I always pin my inspo to boards and show them to her.
